Dominic Richard Slack died in August 2007 .
He was the oldest son of Ann and Richard Slack and had a younger brother Marcus.
He died from Dilated Cardiomyopathy. He had only been ill for 3 weeks - before that he was a normal fit and healthy 14 year old . For the first 2 weeks we were told he had a 'bug' then finally we found out what was really wrong . He was admittied to hospital and began drug treatment and seemed to be doing well, a week later they even started talking about him coming home - but that same day his heart just stopped beating. Huge efforts were made to revive him, but his heart was just too tired.
Dominic was a son anyone would be proud of - he was clever (he had just achieved level 8 in Maths at Key Stage 3 SATs), funny, kind and loved by everyone who met him.
His great loves were Chocolate , computers , Roller coasters and his PS3 in equal measures. He hated fruit of any kind , PE lessons (although he was not unfit - he loved cycling and body boarding and was learning to water ski) and being made to tidy his room.
Being only 14 he hadn't finally decided what he wanted to do but his ideal would have been to design either roller coasters or computer games.
Remembering Dom
This poem was written by one of Dom's class mates and put into their year 11 year book.
He came to Waingels in year seven,
With a coat and a smile and a bag on his back,
And everyone thought he'd stay till year eleven,
And his name was Dominic, Dominic Slack,
But three years later we could hardly believe,
His life was snuffed out. And it caused us all to grieve,
But memories of Dom you could still percieve
Scattered around Waingels everywhere.
*****
Two years later and we're moving on
As we go our ways we wonder - where would he have gone ?
We'll never know what he would have done,
With the life that we feel he should have had,
But he was funny, he was cheery he was clever and kind,
And the thoughts and the smiles that he left behind,
We'll take with us as we pack into our mind,
Bits of Waingels College as we find
♥ I am the wind in your hair, with you everywhere
I am the stars in the sky and the sun up high ♥
♥ I am the waves in the ocean, with your every emotion
I am the snow on the ground, I am all around ♥
♥ I am the flowers in the meadow, wherever you go
I am the moon at night, please know I'm alright ♥
♥ I am the bird's sweet song, I am not gone
I am the blossom on a tree, you'll never forget me ♥
♥ I am the rain on your face, a rainbow's embrace
I am the leaves on the ground, I'll always be around ♥
♥ I am the fluffy white clouds, innocent and pure
Look all around you, you'll feel me I'm sure ♥
♥ I am that warm loving feeling, deep in your heart
My memories live on, we'll never be apart ♥
♥ I am all around you, in all that you see, hear and do
Just reach right out now, I am always here with you ♥

How do we say “goodbye”
to the ones we love the most.
When in our heart of hearts we know,
we need and want them close.
Now close your eyes real tightly,
let your feelings overflow.
They never really left you,
your memories never go.
Laughter came so easy,
to someone with your smile.
I was lucky to have known you,
and loved you for a while.
I borrowed you from heaven,
now you must return.
Of all the lessons in my life,
this is the hardest one to learn.
So young to have left,
so much still to do.
Did God have plans,
already made for you?
We can still hear the laughter,
imagine you there.
Standing at the mirror,
combing your hair.
Your first day at school,
seems not long ago.
The summers of swimming,
the playing in the snow.
A short lifetime for memories,
of which we have to make do.
Someone special is missing,
our Dominic that's you.
